Recently I have been thinking about blogging, social websites, and the effect it could have on us from a day to day prospective. Recently while riding the train home from work I realized that there were a lot of interesting faces that I see daily that I might want to “get to know” some more. Granted I do not want to talk to these people in person, that is not what train rides are for (or what I am about). But it would be nice to put a name behind the face, or find out something interesting about the people that ride the blue line. So what I thought was why not a website that is like a social gathering point that tells the tales, trials and tribulations of the riders of the el’s Blue, Green, Purple, Red, and Brown line.

Imagine, if you will, not having to sit by some homeless guy that smells and has turret’s but to sit next to Mike a Graphic Designer from Logan Square who has a kid named Lisa and is trying to save up enough cash to build a boat.

The key to the site would be to have mucho social involvement. You can search by train line, by face (a patent pending search function), by El stop where you get on/off, etc…. There would be message boards particularly tailored to each line, and to varying degrees of interests (Republican Blue Liners board, Cubs fans board, Green line Sox fans board, etc).

Of course, once we get one segment all set there would be expansions, i.e.

cta-busriders.familiarface.com
starbuckswifi-ers.familiarface.com
and the list goes on and on.

I like the idea, but there would have to be some sort of safety against weird stalker people that would abuse the system. Another thing we could do is make a site where people post pictures of people that they know, met or just happen to be in the background of a picutre. Once the picture is posted the individual could write their own little story about that person. i would be like a creative writing course or something. It would also provide the opportunity for the person whose picture is posted to retort and tell their real story.

    Just a thought.
