Testing the newest browsers (Flock vs. IE7beta).

Flock — The web browser for you and your friends

Today I have been testing two of the “newest” web browers. The first is IE7. Now IE7 to me, at least, seems like a you are driving a car that turned your steering wheel in to a joystick and you no longer can go in reverse. The new stuff just doesnt make sense (i.e. as default, there is no menu bar?!?!?!), and the old functionality that you are used to just isnt there any more. Not even Yahoo!’s shnazy newly designed home page would come up on it (you get the old standard), even though IE has decided to make yahoo the search engine of choice when it comes to the “web search” area, counteracting Google’s hold over Firefox. Also it took about 25 minutes to download (Hey Microsoft, why the hell did I have to download this when I am just updating a built in feature in to your operating system?) and install. Also made me restart my OS, upon doing so, XP started looking for a disc for WordPerfect and is trying to make me insert a disc in to my CD-ROM??? Anyway, so far not liking it all that much. A lot of the functionality seems backwards.

Flock on the other hand, so far, seems like the “web2.0 browser”. It integrates seemlessly Flickr and del.icio.us as well as this blog in to the explorer. My whole point to writing this mini-review is because I wanted to use the “blog this,” function. All I did was right click on the above image from Flock.com and wa-lah blog posted. After a simple 2 minute no nonsense set up, it is up and running with great features. The only glitch I have seen so far is that it would not properly import my “OPML” file from my standard feed aggregator. I had to instead import each feed individually. So far… Flock wins.
