The hits just keep on coming

The Idea Thunderdome is a bulging vein on the forehead of entrepreneurship. Until today I thought that besides me and Gus (and a few relatives), there really wasn’t all that much interest in the dome. I mean, think about it, I always look at the bottom right hand corner and see our feedburner readers dip to as low as 4 and soar to as high as a whopping 13.

Then again…I just looked at this website’s stats (which is a subdivision of my outdated, paltry joke of a personal site stanhansen.biz) and the stats are growing man… and on your last post we spiked above 100 hits in a day for the first time in existance in the dome. Our visitor growth has been growing steady over the last few months, and if this month’s success continues, it will be another record breaker (the third in a row). In fact at this time last year we spiked at 20 visitors in a day that is a 500% one year growth. Okay so that is extremely shaky math and logic, but you get the point.

The army is growing…I even made an excel graph that shows our growth since June (not sure why it took off in June?)
Gustanza Revolution is growing

PS, figured out tonight that I work literally a block and a half away from the hottest “web2.0″ company in Chicago (and some might say the country). I had no idea. I am going to stalk them on Monday (and reveal who I speak of) and post it here. And the funny thing is, I work in a VERY industrial area of chicago. It reaks of sulfer and reminds me of “Paper Street” in fight club. I thought a hot web2.0 company would have some fancy high rise downtown, or at least near downtown, or in some trendy little neighborhood with hipster shops on every corner. I practically walk by their offices every day (I think I even parked in front of them once even). Stay tuned ‘domers.

HowTube - otherwise known as VideoJug

I just stumbled on to VideoJug, well by stumbled I mean I was reading Mashable. Anyway, this site is a site I could become quickly addicted to, especially if I keep getting knowledge dropped on me like the How to tie a full windsor know video posted above. I was just reading a book called the Long Tail by Chris Anderson, and this site is kind of what the book is talking about. What would be cooler is if it would be able to tell you how to keep a video from AutoPlaying.

The Disposable Blog Camera

DisposableBlogCamera.jpg (JPEG Image, 350×214 pixels)

Check this out, whenever you are going to an occasions where you want to capture the memories but dont want to bring your fancy digital camera, why not just take the disposable blog camera. What the camera does is wirelessly (through wifi I suppose) shoot your photos to either your flickr account or right to your blog. Once you are done taking pictures, you can actually just chuck it out, because your photo’s are now stored on your Flickr account (or on your blog).

My Life in Textile ™

Grandpa Stanley’s Hamilton Watch

Originally uploaded by Stantastic.

My life in Textile is my newest idea for a blog / social network. Recently I have been tooling around Dandelife which at first seemed amazing, but as time went by, you get bored with it. Because it all revolves around dates (as in what is today’s date). Not much fun about browsing dates in a year.

When I was on the El today I noticed this trendy dude had this interesting chain bracelet and I thought. I bet this trendy dude has some facinating story about how he got this bracelet, what it means to him, some interesting how he almost lost it story etc…then I thought, everything we wear has some type of story behind it. Whether it be your shoes, your favorite shirt, your hole-y pair of argyle socks. Clothes have an amazing life (or soul) behind them if you really think about it.

Well my idea is to create a blog called My Life in Textile ™, okay not the best name, but… where I would post items of clothing (or bracelets / watches etc…) and write a story about it.

For example, the photo above is Grandpa Stanley’s Hamilton Watch. My dad was rumidging through some of his crap and came across a box full of mens jewelry. He was showing me all these tie tacks and cuff links and telling me these stories how he was a kid trying on these from his Uncle Loren and then he pulls out this really nice looking watch and goes, “Hey this was your Grandpa Stanley’s watch, you want it?” Wait, you mean the Grandfather I never met, the one that died 14 years before I was born, the one I was NAMED AFTER…YES I WANT IT. Sure I had to pay an arm and a leg to get it restored, but no one can touch what this watch means to me.

So you get the jist? Kind of like Post Secret except not so secretive.

One Red Paperclip

Okay, this is pure genius. This guy, Kyle MacDonald, decided on a little social experiement. He decided to try and trade one red paperclip for something else, and eventually keep trading up and up and up… until he owns a home. Well he is up to one year in Phoenix. And he is not giving up until he owns his own home. He also currently has offers for one summer in Hollywood, a 30 second commercial (the free press he is getting will supercede this, so this is mute). I am sure I am oversimplifying his plight, but you can read more here.

Manovations.com (or Manventions.com)™

The other day I was walking downtown when I noticed a guy carrying a device. What it was was a broomstick with out the broom attached and on the end he had a hairdryer duct taped to the end. He was also carrying what looked to be about 200 feet of extension cord. I could not help but wonder what the hell could this guy possibly be using this for. So what I thought was a website, manovations.com, where men post their “stupid” inventions that end up serving practical purposes in the real world. Remember our walking sticks buddy? Anyway, it would be interactive so other men would be post their own manventions and rank each other’s manventions™.

International McDonald’s

I had this idea the other day when I was in McD’s. If you have ever been to another country and been to a McD’s you see that each country has a few different menu items than the US. While they will still have the Big Mac and all that they will also have foods that are culturally significant. In Holland for example they have something that is like a chicken pot pie, in Japan they would have something that contains rice.

The idea is to bring some of these items to McD’s here in the US. So, if you are in an area that has a large population of Arabs you would bring McFalafel to the menu etc. With the growing tendency of US citizens looking for healthier ethnic type foods this would be perfect, and for those of us that love McD’s but are getting tired of the same old same old and want something beyond a new chicken sandwich, this would be outstanding.

Get the # for McD’s and let’s make this happen today.
