Posts filed under 'Knowledge' : What charges the thunder in the dome? Kickin the k-nowledge!
Lately I have been getting in to simplicity. Probably because of the fact that I have been reading a lot of 37signals blog.I was reading an article in Inc today about the founder of Staples, Thomas Stemberg (not online yet, but read the magazine) and he kind of summarized business plans and the best ones basically can fall in to this model:
Why does _________ exist?
Because people need ________ .
If you can fill in the blank on the second line in 7 words or less, you have yourself an idea. The examples he gave were: Why does google exist? Because people need to search for information on the internet. Why does federal express exist? Because people need packages overnight.
I like that. Simple.
So…why does The Idea Thunderdome exist?
Because people need _____________….
I encourage readers to fill in the blank with your comments.

Read this article about a kid who had a simple, yet interesting idea. Then reflect on your life and realize that everything you have ever done is worthless.

I am putting this in the knowledge category because that is precisely what I am about to drop.
People wake up every day and most go to a job that they don’t like. Making it through the day by counting minutes, smoking cigarettes and hashing over inane details of their private lives. Part of what the experts call evolution is the slow change that comes over a group of things (species) over, what is usually, a long period of time. The evolution that we are headed for is one where people are lazy do-nothing types that care more about the new Dog Fancy magazine than they do about themselves. Share a moment of this progress with someone you love and do nothing for 10 minutes. Stare at the wall, parody a small but stoutly man, or perhaps simply huff airplane glue out of a can.
The preceding knowledge has been brought to you by the Gustanza Revolutionevolution. Thought provoking ideas, killer threads, and bitchin’ tattoo’s are on the rise. Will it be you that is finally surprised??

Thanks to Paul Stamatiou, I have discovered RSSOwl. I had been using Mozilla Thunderbird for reading my blogs, but RSSOwl is so much faster and also way better in terms of adding RSS feeds and organization. I also did a behind the scenes upgrade to the Thunderdome so that the feed does not keep coming up invalid like it used to. Paul has a great article on boosting your blog traffic, recommended.

Added a new category, knowledge. Its too bad I already wasted about $5000 on my own MBA, or else I would have just got my own personal MBA. Its a list of 40 books that you could read to substitute an MBA education. Personally I would have added the The tipping poing to the list.
